Barbara K. Day

Barbara began music instruction on the piano at age 5. When she was 13, she stumbled across a violin in an uncle's closet, and taught herself to play.  She played in high school orchestras, Interlocken Summer Institute, and the Kansas City Youth Symphony. She earned a scholarship to the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City at age 17, played in the Conservatory Symphony, and the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra. At 19, she studied with a professor from the Vienna School of Music while living in Europe for one year.

Returning from Europe, she played in the local symphony I Springfield, Missouri, and occasionally jammed with local musicians, including the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, who went on to world-wide fame, while at the same time earned a degree in education.

Life then took her down another path - marriage, 2 children, and a teaching career; so she put aside her music altogether.

In 1998, at the urging of an artist friend, she sat in with a local folk-rock band, and discovered an entirely different expression on the violin with a remarkable capacity for improvisation, lending itself to all types of music.

Barbara has developed her own unique style of playing that is deeply emotive, a combination of blues, jazz, and folk-rock that pours from her soul. She also plays pop tunes including Broadway show tunes, and occasionally a little Irish, bluegrass, and country.
